Ben-Gurion University of the Negev rose another 33 places this year, reaching 259th place in the QS World University Rankings released on Tuesday. This is the highest rank the University has achieved in the last ten years. Since 2011, the University has risen 126 places in the rankings. This year, it even surpassed its previous top ranking of 264th in 2008, when far fewer universities were being ranked.
“The rise of approximately 125 places in the rankings over the past five years is testament to the dramatic and impressive progress the University has made in recent years, especially relative to its young age,” says BGU Rector Prof. Zvi HaCohen.
The first six places in the QS Rankings are held by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University, University of Cambridge, Stanford University, California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and University of Oxford.
BGU has joint research or fellowship agreements with MIT and Oxford. The University also has extensive research ties with the University of Chicago (no. 10 on the list) and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU; no. 13).
BGU stands out in some of the categories that comprise the overall ranking. This year, the University is ranked 148th in International Faculty and 167th in Citations Per Faculty. Out of five Faculties, three are ranked among the top 400 – Engineering Sciences, Health Sciences and Natural Sciences.
Put out by QS Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd, the QS World University Rankings, first published in 2004, now features close to 900 universities worldwide, with more than 3,000 considered for inclusion.
