Israel-Germany-Ghana Trilateral Cooperation: a 2-weeks workshop for 140 citrus farmers

MASHAV in partnership with Ghana’s Ministry of Food & Agriculture and the German International Development Cooperation conducted a 2-week workshop for 140 citrus farmers from the Ashanti, Eastern and Central Regions to improve citrus productivity.

The trilateral cooperation is conducted under the framework of the “Africa Initiative” signed between Israel and Germany. The implementing partners are MASHAV, Ghana’s Ministry of Food & Agriculture (MoFA) and the German International Development Cooperation-GIZ.

The aim is to develop a thriving citrus value chain in Ghana, in line with MoFA’s policy to enhance productivity for increased income and to improve livelihood through the adoption of scientifically proven technologies and best practices in citrus production.

The “Advanced Training in Citrus Production and Beekeeping” workshop was conducted by two leading Israeli agricultural experts: Menachem Davidson, and Shaike Stern. Its main goal was to build the capacity of the farmers through the transfer of technological know-how to improve citrus productivity. The focus of the training was on citrus agronomy including quick harvest with an aspect of beekeeping, which is being introduced to provide an alternative source of income for the citrus farmers.
