Engineers Without Borders: TAU students arrived in Tanzania
A delegation of Tel Aviv University students from The Iby and Aladar Fleischman Faculty of Engineering recently arrived in Tanzania, under the auspices of Engineers Without Borders. The delegation settled in the city of Arusha and began the preparations for improving the infrustrcutre in a nearby village.
The project will focus on improving the solar panel system for the local clinic, as well as expanding the water system installed by the previous delegation. After their equipment was finally released from customs, the delegation has arrived at the village and has met with the school staff. In their work on the solar panels and the water system, the delegation has received cooperation from the local community, who have been eager to help with the work.
A member of the delegation wrote: “And here’s the most exciting update. We ended up assembling the water system together with members of the village! There is light at the clinic! There is electricity in the refrigerators that will hold medication! We added a little water for the dorm students, and we changed the original layout of the existing water system to fit the way the school is actually used. Today a moving ceremony was held, with the clinic director of the district and county and village children. They gave us the traditional clothing of the Maasai!”
