Mashav (Israel): Preventing the Spread of Ebola in Cote d’Ivoire
Two Israeli doctors specializing in infectious diseases arrived in Cote d’Ivoire on a prevention and protection mission last December. Those two Israeli experts, Dr. Ami Neuberger and Dr. Shiri Tenenbaum conducted professional trainings for over 70 local medical personnel on prevention and protection to stop the spread of the Ebola epidemic and assist in strengthening the local capacity (December 6).
MASHAV’s immediate response to the international effort in containing and mitigating the outbreak of Ebola in West Africa included the shipment of basic medical equipment and drugs to Sierra Leone, protective gear to the African Union headquarters as well as dispatching doctors to neighboring Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire. Israel has also recently shipped field clinics called “Hospitals of Hope”. These mobile clinics each include twenty beds, protective gear, treatment carts, and all the medical equipment required to treat patients. Israeli experts will train the local health personnel and instruct them on how to operate the clinics.
