Bar-Ilan University (Israel): Research Regarding Learning in the Brain Continues to Gain International Attention
Recent research published in Scientific Reports by Prof. Ido Kanter, of the Department of Physics and Gonda (Goldschmied) Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center, and colleagues has garnered significant international attention in the scientific community, as well as on social media.
In their research, Kanter and colleagues presented experimental and theoretical results which reveal for the first time that learning is conducted in completely different sites in the brain than previously thought. The discovery is so significant that it calls for a re-evaluation of current treatments for disordered brain functionality, and for a better understanding of proper chemical drug and biological mechanisms to maintain, control, and enhance learning.
Much of the initial international attention to this research originated in the fields of neuroscience and machine learning. But this exciting new scientific message is now rapidly propagating to the field of chemistry – so much so that Prof. Kanter was recently invited to write a Viewpoint article for Chemical Neuroscience, the journal of the American Chemical Society.
This discovery is also expected to open new horizons for advanced deep learning algorithms and artificial intelligence-based applications.
